The relationships between the members of the Straw Hat Crew have always been one of the most interesting parts ofOne Piece. Over the course of over 1,000 chapters and episodes, these relationships have had the chance to develop and grow, both through moments big and small. In many ways, these moments of bonding between the Straw Hats, though it has been lacking in the modern story ofOne Piece, are truly what makes the crew feel like a family overall.
However, with so much time focused on the massiveOne Pieceworld and the important plot of each arc, it seems like Oda would have a hard time developing the bond between each of the Straw Hats. Despite this, Oda still seems to have the ability to use small moments to help increase the bond between characters. This is especially true for one of the fan base’s favorite relationships, the bond betweenChopper and Zoro inOne Piece, which constantly uses small details to remind fans of their brotherly bond.
Chopper And Zoro Have An Underrated Dynamic In One Piece
The Duo Has The Perfect Brotherly Dynamic
ThroughoutOne Piece, Chopper and Zoro have always had one of the most interesting dynamics in the Straw Hat Crew inOne Piece. With the whole Straw Hat Crew being a family, Zoro and Chopper have always felt like the oldest and youngest brothers respectively. Due to this, while a character likeZoro has a hard exterior, Chopper has always had an interesting way of breaking down his barriers, leading to a cute dynamic that shows a side of ZoroOne Piecerarely shows. On the flip side, Chopper looks up to Zoro like a cool older brother, idolizing him as a role model.
That’s my man! - Zoro to Chopper
Throughout the series, there have been plenty of moments that show the relationship between Zoro and Chopper. However, there hasn’t been a massive moment that tests the bond between these characters, like we see between Robin and the rest of the crew, or betweenOne Piece’sUsopp and Luffy. Instead, when it comes to Zoro and Chopper, Oda has to introduce little moments and details to build this strong dynamic.
Small Details Help Make This Relationship Stronger In One Piece
Zoro Dreams Of Chopper Cheering Him On
One of the best tiny details that Oda shares about the Zoro and Chopper dynamic explains what the duo feels about each other on the inside, without saying it out loud. For Chopper, the member of the Weakling Triooften turns to Zoro for protection, idolizing his strength, without expressly stating that Zoro is someone that he looks up to. At the same time, although Zoro’s emotions are kept under wraps much more, Zoro has shown how much he cares about Chopper on the inside.
In the cover story of Chapter 920, Oda draws Zoro dreaming of a fight in his dreams. In this small dream bubble, Zoro triumphantly stands over his opponent, looking extremely satisfied with his victory. Additionally, theOne Piecedoctor, Chopper, is also prominent in his dream as one of the few details, cheering Zoro on. This short scene shows that Zoro cares about Chopper’s approval enough that it affects his dreams.
Some Fans Theorize Why Chopper And Zoro Are So Close
Zoro May Spend A Lot Of Time Being Treated For Injuries
Although it hasn’t been explicitly shown why Zoro and Chopper have this relationship in the series, with the duo having minimal one-on-one time, fans have attempted to fill in the blanks as to how they got to be so close. Some fans predict thatthe powerfulOne Pieceswordsman, Zoro, being frequently injured in battles, has had to be under the care of Chopper so much that the two naturally bonded over time. At the same time, fans hope this dynamic will be more fully explored sometime in the Final Saga, giving Zoro and Sanji their time to shine.
Quit your bellyaching Chopper, it’s disgraceful. - Zoro
In the end, while there haven’t been massive moments to build the relationship between Zoro and Chopper, it’s the little moments of Oda’s writing that make these twoOne Piece’sbest duo. The small cute moments of Chopper showing excitement at Zoro’s coolness or Zoro showing concern for Chopper’s well-being and wanting his approval are plenty to cement the dynamic between these two. Hopefully, by the end of the series,One Piecewill include a moment that explores the Chopper and Zoro dynamic even further.
