Summary

It can be said thatPath of Exile 2is one of those games that don’t hold players' hands all the way through, and instead leave it up to them to discover the full extent of its mechanics and even some secrets. The same applies to its predecessor, andPath of Exile 2’s endgamecan be arguably more complex overall due to how juicing maps works, as opposed to a more straightforward process inPoE 1. There are various ways to make farming in the game a smoother experience with better results, and such is the case for a specific piece of content - Citadels.

When first starting the endgame section,Path of Exile 2players will have to make their way through Waystones of different tiers, most likely starting from Tier 1 on the first character of a given League and up until Tier 15. Tier 15 Waystones can give players a lot of currency when properly used, such as by using Breach Precursor Tablets that have the Increased Item Quantity affix in surrounding Towers, possibly even using Distilled Paranoia on the Waystones for better results. However, when it comes to farming Citadels, things are a bit more complex.

Tier 16 Waystones in Path of Exile 2can only be obtained by corrupting Tier 15 ones, but it’s a rare outcome.

Path of Exile 2’s Crisis Fragments Farming Has a ‘Secret’ Stat to Look Out For

Path of Exile 2’s Citadelsare necessary to unlock the fight against a pinnacle boss called Arbiter of Ash, as players need three Crisis Fragments to activate the challenge in the Burning Monolith. Crisis Fragments are very valuable even if players want to trade them away or buy them from other players to challenge the Arbiter of Ash, so it’s important to get as many as possible when completing Citadels. Currently, the prices for the Crisis Fragments are:

to obtain more Crisis Fragments, players will need to increase the quantity ofWaystones obtained inPath of Exile 2. This is done with the Waystone itself, which can get up to six modifiers via crafting. However, only using a Vaal Orb on a Waystone will help players get more Waystone Drop Chance, as one of the possible outcomes is to corrupt the item so that it gets six Suffixes instead of the maximum number of three. Only Suffix modifiers increase the Waystone Drop Chance, which in turn increases how many Crisis Fragments can be obtained from a given Citadel.

How Path of Exile 2 Players Can Maximize How Many Crisis Fragments They Get

Right now, it’s still unclear what the exact breakpoints are for players to get multiple Crisis Fragments on killing one ofPath of Exile 2’s bossesin their respective Citadel. The clearest breakpoint is at least 300% Waystone Drop Chance to have a higher chance of getting two Crisis Fragments, and for three it can vary between 750% and 900%, which can be done in various ways. For starters, to maximize Citadel farming, players should respec their Atlas Skill Tree and grab all the Waystone Modifier Effect nodes they can, as well as the Unstable Energy Keystone.

These will all increase the modifiers on a given Waystone, which will in turn increase the corresponding Waystone Drop Chance. On an all-Suffixes Waystone, this can be quite risky, as Suffixes are all “negative” modifiers that make the map harder to complete. However, doing this and stacking as much Waystone Drop Chance as possible, combined with Precursor Tablets granting “Increased Quantity of Waystones Found in Your Maps” will net players multiple Crisis Fragments per run, which alone can fund an entire new build or some nice upgrades if sold. Otherwise, players will be able to challenge theArbiter of Ash inPath of Exile 2for even greater gains, at a greater risk.
