Summary

It has been a busy few months for Grinding Gear Games, the developer behind bothPath of ExileandPath of Exile 2, with the latter launching in early access just last December and getting continuous support so far. Due to theupdates forPath of Exile 2, its predecessor has been put on the back burner for a while, at least until GGG’s new title is more polished and gets all the main updates it needs for every system to be fully functional. Much like in the past when GGG needed more time in between bigPoEreleases, the studio has come up with a unique event forPath of Exilecalled Legacy of Phrecia, and it should become the foundation of aPath of Exile 2League.

It’s unclear whenPath of Exile 2will get its first full-fledged League and economy reset, but it’s probably what patch 0.2 will be about. The upcomingPoELegacy of Phrecia event is an interesting spin on the game, as it will feature all-new Ascendancy classes in place of the existing 19, meaning players will have a chance to use powers they never could and make all-new builds for a short while. This concept is great for replayability, and it’s somethingPath of Exile 2shouldn’t sleep on.

Path of Exile’s Legacy of Phrecia Event Would Make a Perfect PoE 2 League

Path of Exile 2’s Ascendancy classeshave been out for just two months now, and the roster is not even complete, as GGG plans on adding six more base classes and subsequently 12 more Ascendancies. However, unless big shake-ups happen to the meta and balance patches change how some Ascendancy nodes work, each class can get stale relatively fast in the long run. The Legacy of Phrecia event completely removes all the existingPoEAscendancies in favor of new, experimental ones that take some existing concepts to new extremes.

For a one-time event, this is a solid start, and it’s something that will most likely feel refreshing for a lot of players. Suddenly having 19 all-new Ascendancies, even if they are temporary, means that build possibilities are endless and unexplored. IfPath of Exile 2’s remaining classesand Ascendancies are all slated to come out with the game’s full release, or at least much later on in the early access period, it would make a lot of sense for one of the Leagues to be an entire refresh with 12 all-new Ascendancies.

Why a League With All-New Ascendancies Would Be Great For Path of Exile 2

An entire League with this concept could be quite interesting, considering that players would have a 3/4-month new economy and never-before-seen Ascendancies, making buildcrafting all the more fun. The Legacy of Phrecia event will only last for a while rather than the full 3-4 months of a new League, which is probably why GGG is letting wilder, more experimental classes make their debut. Still, this is a great opportunity to test some mechanics and interactions that could then find their way into the sequel, possibly even with new League-specificUnique Items inPath of Exile 2, which would be the first of their kind.

A League like the Legacy of Phrecia event doesn’t need to happen right away, but with this same concept being applied toPoE, it would only make sense if it was adapted for the sequel.Path of Exile 2’s first Leaguemay still be a few months away, but if GGG wants to make it a big one, it shouldn’t be aPoEcopy like current mechanics such as Breach, Ritual, or Delirium - no matter how popular they are. As such, an entire League with brand-new Ascendancies, possibly with some unique gimmicks, would be an excellent way to make the game extremely replayable before its 1.0 release.
