Summary

Some Atlus fans have recently taken note of onePersona 4vocalist, whose social media activity has sparked speculation that a remake of the iconic JRPG is in the works. While this idea has already gained quite a bit of online momentum, the underlying evidence pointing to aPersona 4remake is circumstantial, at best.

July 10 will mark the 17th anniversary of the fourthnumberedPersonagame’s PS2 release. Its immediate predecessor was also 17 years old when it received a remake in the form ofPersona 3 Reload, which debuted back in February 2024. That’s not to say that aPersona 4remake is expected to materialize in the immediate future, but there’s been some chatter about Atlus possibly pursuing such a project as of late.

In the latest example of this trend, fans have started scrutinizing some social media activity byPersona 4vocalist Shihoko Hirata, interpreting it as hints that the game’s remake may already be in the pipeline. As noted by Twitter user Rudiger__tw in a widely circulated post, Hirata has recently revealed that she’s working on an unannounced game, all the while posting pictures from the MIT Studio, a recording facility in Tokyo’s Minato ward that’s often used bySega subsidiaries, including Atlus. Rudiger__tw also identified multiple instances of Hirata likingPersona 4posts as of late, interpreting them as possible hints at a potential revival of the cult-classic JRPG.

Persona 4 Remake Rumors Have Been Heating Up Since 2024

While some casual Instagram posts are hardly conclusive evidence of anything, Hirata’s recent social media activity isn’t the first indicator that Atlus might be planning to revisit its 2008 JRPG. Back in February 2024, Sega leaker Midori claimed that aPersona 4remake was already in the pipeline at the time, adding that Atlus was also working on remaking thePersona 2duology. Another leaker known as Head on the Block subsequently claimed that thePersona 2project was a remaster, while characterizing thePersona 4remake as being in an extremely early stage of development—and thus years away from going gold.

Persona 4remake rumors started heating up around the timePersona 3 Reloadhit the market. The 2024 JRPG surpassed 1 million sales in less than a week, becoming the fastest-selling Atlus game at the time—a title that has since been taken byMetaphor: ReFantazio.

Following theimmense success ofPersona 3 Reload, a refresh of the fourth numbered entry in the franchise seems like a safe bet for Sega and Atlus. However, even if such a project is indeed in the works, it seems unlikely to hit the market beforePersona 6, which is already believed to have been in the works for years.
