Persona 5was a game full of twists, and there’s one in particular that’s highly unlikely to get repeated inPersona 6. It’s still far too early to speculate on the specifics of what the plot ofPersona 6might entail. However, simply repeating the past game’s story beats would lead to diminishing returns. This would be especially true for one of the game’s biggest twists, which would have far less impact the second time around, especially if it was used twice in a row.Persona 6will need more original surprises to keep players guessing during the game.

Thestory ofPersona 6will be coming hot on the heels of the many wild twists thatPersona 5had to offer. WhilePersona 5’s gameplay mechanics and story themes took a few departures compared to past games, the story itself was one of the wildest rides in the series to date. As the adventure reached its peak, multiple surprises were layered on top of each other, never slowing down once the plot truly kicked into gear. The result was a story that likely caught plenty of players off guard. Anyone who finishedPersona 5is unlikely to forget its reveals anytime soon.

Persona 6’s Version of Igor Doesn’t Need Persona 5’s Big Twist

Persona 5’s Igor Was Actually the True Villain in Disguise

Therole of Igor inPersona 5was one of the game’s biggest shocks. Igor is a series mainstay, always assisting the protagonist from the Velvet Room, largely thanks to his important ability to fuse demons. However, late inPersona 5, it’s revealed that the Igor that Joker had been interacting with was actually Yaldabaoth, the overarching villain of the game who had assumed the guise of the Velvet Room’s host. Igor usually didn’t directly interfere with the main plot, and had never been used remotely like this before. Thankfully, after Yaldabaoth’s defeat, Igor returns to his rightful position in the Velvet Room.

Repeating Persona 5’s Igor Twist Would Lack the Same Punch

While it was shocking, thisbig twist fromPersona 5shouldn’t be repeated inPersona 6and possibly not ever again in the series for a couple of reasons. Having Igor be revealed to be an impostor for a second time would have nowhere near the same impact that it did inPersona 5. A major reason why it worked so well was because players already had four games worth of Igor being a consistent ally. Using him as a false identity for a villain again would actually diminish his own role by making his impersonators more important than the man himself.

Persona 6 Should Tell its Own Story

There’s another reason forPersona 6to avoid repeating the past.Exploring new ideas inPersona 6should be one of the game’s top priorities, alongside making sure that the gameplay and writing are in peak form. No matter how goodPersona 5’s story was, trying to repeat its biggest moments would be a mistake for the next game. Not only would they not be as effective, they would effectively robPersona 6of its own identity.Persona 6can do so many creative things with its story. It doesn’t need to attempt to recapturePersona 5’s big moments to succeed.

Having Igor be revealed to be an impostor for a second time would have nowhere near the same impact that it did inPersona 5.

Persona 5’s role for Igor was a big shock, but one that probably only needs to happen once. While runningPersona 6’s Velvet Roomdoesn’t necessarily have to be Igor’s only role, it should be him and not another impostor. Plus, having Igor back as usual could allow players to actually have a real Social Link with him, since the Fool Confidant inPersona 5was actually with Yaldabaoth in disguise. Igor is aPersonaicon, andPersona 6doesn’t need to repeat old twists with him.
