Of all the great games that Atlus released last year,Metaphor: ReFantaziowas arguably the one that stood out the most. This high fantasy JRPG was the first wholly new IP that the company developed and published since it releasedCatherinein 2011. Despite not being attached to any existing franchises,Metaphor: ReFantaziobecame Atlus’s fastest-selling game of all time. It surpassed the one million copies sold milestone on the day it was launched, and it ended up being one of the most nominated games at The Game Awards 2024, behind onlyAstro BotandFinal Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

Atlus has stated on multiple occasions that it wantsMetaphor: ReFantazioto be the next pillar franchisefor the company, alongsidePersonaandShin Megami Tensei. If it really wants to achieve this goal, then perhaps Atlus should spread the word about its latest game through collaborations. The company doesn’t necessarily have to putMetaphorskins inFortnite, though, it can also do crossovers with its own franchises. APersonacollaboration withMetaphor: ReFantazio, for example, would be a very logical decision, given how similar the two franchises are from a gameplay standpoint. One perfect avenue for such a collaboration could be throughPersona 5: The Phantom X, the newest game in thePersonaseries.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Should Host a Crossover Event With Metaphor: ReFantazio

Persona 5: The Phantom X is a Mobile Game That’s Currently Not Available in the West

Despite being part of an incredibly popular franchise,Persona 5: The Phantom Xis a game that many may not be immediately familiar with. This is because it hasn’t been released in the West and is only available in select East Asian countries, like China and South Korea.Persona 5: The Phantom Xis, as its name suggests, a spin-off of thePersona 5subseries. It is agacha game for mobile phonesand Windows PCs, and it features an entirely new cast of characters. Unlike otherPersonatitles, the game is developed primarily by Black Wings Game Studio, a subsidiary of Perfect World Games.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Has Started Collaborating With Other Persona Games

Ever sincePersona 5: The Phantom Xwas released in open beta in April 2024, there has been a lot of discussion about what the future holds for the game. During an offline event held in Shanghai on June 29, 2025, some developers at Atlus and Black Wings Game Studio shed some light on this matter. They not only confirmed that they hadplans to bringPersona 5: The Phantom Xto the West, they also revealed that they wanted to do crossover events in the game. The developers stated that, to begin with, they would release collaborationswith otherPersonagames in the coming months, specificallyPersona 5 Royal,Persona 3 Reload, andPersona 4 Golden, in that order.

Shortly after that interview took place,Persona 5: The Phantom Xhosted its first-ever crossover event, which involved the aforementionedPersona 5 Royal. The first part of this collaboration scenario, which is being released in parts, came out in December 2024, and it added one of themembers of the Phantom Thieves, Kasumi Yoshizawa, to the game as a playable character, along with a new dungeon set in a research institute.

Metaphor: ReFantazio Could Be Introduced to a New Audience With a Persona 5: The Phantom X Crossover

Atlus and Black Wings Game Studio should add aMetaphor: ReFantaziocollaboration toPersona 5: The Phantom X, similar to the ongoingPersona 5 Royalone. Even if they don’t add aMetaphor-themed dungeon to the game, though, the two companies could, at the very least, givePersona 5: The Phantom Xplayers the ability to summonMetaphor’s charactersor use some of the JRPG’s iconic weapons, such as Drakodios, in battle. Since the audience that plays gacha titles is usually different from those that play console games, a hypothetical crossover event like this could be a great way to introduceMetaphor: ReFantazioto a whole new crowd.
