Summary

A new officialPokemonanimation has confirmed that Latios can look like other Pokemon in front of others. For years, this ability had only been attributed to Latias, since variousPokemonmedia never showcased Latios using the same skill.

According to its Pokedex description, the Legendary Pokemon from Hoenn Latias can use its glass-like down feathers to reflect light and alter its appearance. Latias is seen using this ability in officialPokemoncontent like the 2000s moviePokemon Heroes, when Latias transforms into a young girl and befriends Ash. Although this light-reflection skill means that Latias isn’t exactly ashape-shifting Pokemonlike Ditto and Mew, fans have never questioned that Latias can canonically change its aspect as a disguise. However, over the years, thePokemoncommunity has long debated whether its peer Latios could have the same talent. Now, it seems The Pokemon Company has finally addressed this matter just in time for Pokemon Day 2025.

To celebrate the franchise’s anniversary, the official Japanese Pokemon YouTube channel released an animated short starring Dragonite. Multiple Pokemon appear in the video but, as pointed out by Reddit user RadDudesman, Latias and Latios can be seen near the end disguised as a Flygon and a Salamence, respectively. Latias is the first to return to its original form and Latios does the same the next second. This may be the first official piece ofPokemonmedia that shows Latios altering its aspect with light reflection, thus confirming fans' theories about its abilities. Latios and Latias are among the mostpopular Dragon-Type Pokemonin the franchise, and now players have cleared some long-standing doubts about them.
