2Pokemon Legends: Z-A Trailer
A Year In The Making
This was by far the most awaited section of Pokemon Presents, and something players have been waiting one year for. The first proper trailer forPokemon Legends: Z-Ahas finally revealed some base knowledge as to what this entry in theLegendsseries may have in store. The game featuresChikorita, Tepig, and Totodileas the starters, and seems to take place during a time period relatively soon after the events ofX and Y.The renovations within Lumiose City are shaping up to be a promising setting for the newest game.
Retaining some elements fromArceus, the unique battling mechanics seem to have evolved inZ-A,suggesting that it will be possible to dodge attacks and catch fainted Pokemon. On top of that, old Mega Evolutions were shown off, including the deadly Mega Kangaskhan, though no new Megas have appeared quite yet. Given previous patterns, it’s likely the “new” starters will receive Mega forms, along with Charizard’s gimmick X and Y Megas being completed with a Z Mega. There may even be the chance of Mewtwo also appearing.
While the full story ofZ-Aisn’t known yet, the return of AZ and his immortal, death-defying Floette alongside Zygarde roaming around the city suggests a continuation of ideas seen inXY, specifically revolving around the choices AZ made thousands of years ago. Now that the first real trailer has been released, the upcoming months could showcase even more and reveal more tantalizing details.
1Pokemon Champions
A Battle Revolution
A completely unexpected announcement during Pokemon Presents,Pokemon Championsappears to be the official response to the popularity of Pokemon battle simulators, specifically within a VGC format. At this point,Pokemon Championsis confirmed to havesmartphone and Nintendo Switch compatibility, ranked matches,HOMEconnectivity, and battle mechanics like Mega Evolution and Terastalization at the same time. Players who love to battle online seem to be in for a treat.
While it has been stated that not all Pokemon will be usable inChampionsimmediately at launch, eventually this multi-platform battle sim will have every catchable Pokemon as an option for players to use, though their viability is debatable. Since Mega Evolution, the oldest in-battle temporary gimmick, and Terstalization, the latest gimmick, are both available, it is entirely likely Z-Crystals and Dynamaxing will also return.
