Pokemon GOis treating players to 11 free legendary Pokemon that they can catch right now. Most of the time, the only way to get legendary Pokemon inPokemon GOis by defeating them in raids. However, there have been legendary Pokemon earnable through Special Research tasks and as Field Research Breakthrough rewards on occasion.
But even whenPokemon GOlegendaries are available outside of raids, players still have to put in the work to earn them. Special Research tasks with legendary Pokemon are often challenging and time-consuming, while theField Research Breakthrough rewardscan only be earned once a week max. That’s why it’s incredibly exciting and surprising thatPokemon GOplayers are now able to add 11 more legendaries to their Pokedex without doing much work at all.
As part of its Unova celebrations,Pokemon GOintroduced new Raids Timed Research calledRoad to Unova. By completing raids, players can earn an encounter with a legendary Pokemon. However, there was an issue where completing raids didn’t actually give players credit for the tasks. Niantic has responded to this by duplicating the tasks so there’s a new set to complete, while alsoauto-completingthe existing ones. This means that allPokemon GOplayers, regardless if they have completed a single raid or not, can get 11 free legendary Pokemon. They still have to catch the legendary Pokemon after completing the tasks, but the legendaries can’t run away.
Pokemon GO Free Legendaries
The tasks expire in a couple of days, soPokemon GOplayers are encouraged to hop on and claim their free legendaries as soon as possible. The legendaries in question are all from theUnova regionand include Terrakion, Cobalion, Landorus, Thundurus, Tornadus, Virizion, and five Genesects.Pokemon GOplayers can also get candy for Reshiram, Zekrom, and Kyurem after they’ve successfully captured all 11 legendaries.
Those that want even more legendaries can complete the new set of tasks by winning raids. They can also redeem anew set ofPokemon GOcodesto get fresh tasks that challenge them to catch 156 Pokemon originating from the Unova region. Doing so will unlock additional encounters with Landorus, Thundurus, and Tornadus.
