In late 2025, players will finally return to the France-inspired region of Kalos in the upcoming spinoffPokémon Legends: Z-A. Set after the events of 2013’s 3DS titlesPokémon XandY,Pokémon Legends: Z-Awill have players embody a new trainer sightseeing the newly redeveloped Lumiose City as they encounter characters new and old in the region. Following the release ofPokémon Black 2andWhite 2in 2012, Game Freak sought to develop a new mechanic to traditional Pokémon to intrigue players and make battles more bombastic. While the addition of items had given battles more depth since their introduction inPokémon Gold,Silver, andCrystal, common Pokémon battles had begun to become very repetitive and predictable byBlackandWhite, even with the addition of double, triple, and rotation battles. Mega Evolution’s Questionable Return in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

It’s currently unknown if these are the only Pokémon who can Mega Evolve inLegends: Z-Aor if the game will feature all 48 Mega Evolution forms from the Kalos games and Hoenn remakes. As soon as it was revealed that the game would take place in Kalos, many fans expectedLegends: Z-Ato introduce new Mega Evolutions, just asPokémon Legends: Arceusintroduced a few brand-new Pokémon and forms in Hisui. However, based onLegends: Z-A’s rather small setting of Lumiose City, the number of powerful Mega Evolved Pokémon in the city may be small as well. A few Pokémon from Gens 7-9 who appear inLegends: Z-Acould also receive Mega Evolutions to ensure each generation gets a Mega Evolution, such as a Mega Vikavolt, a Mega Appletun, and a Mega Rabsca.
