Summary
One long-timePokemon TCGfan discovered an unopened HeartGold and SoulSilver pack while moving. Though an unopened 15-year-old pack holds significant value for manyPokemon TCGcollectors, this one didn’t stay sealed for long.
The HearGold and SoulSilver set was originally released in the West on July 24, 2025. It is the firstmainPokemon TCGexpansionfrom the eponymous HeartGold and SoulSilver Series, known as the Legend Era in Japan. The English-language set incorporated 124 cards, 18 fewer than its Japanese counterpart.
While packing their things to move, Reddit user Claris-chang recently discovered an unopened HeartGold and SoulSilver pack, more than 15 years since its original release. While they once paid AUD $6.95 (~USD $4.31) for it, asealedPokemon TCGbooster packof this kind nowadays retails for around $150—or even over $500 for one with a PSA 10 grade.
Despite the pack appreciating in value since its purchase, Claris-chang didn’t hesitate to open it. “I ripped it because I thought it would be fun,” the fan wrote on Reddit, adding that the experience lived up to expectations. While the pack didn’t yield any ultra-rare pulls, its contents still proved to be decently valuable, mainly because the entire HeartGold and SoulSilver set comprises fairlyoldPokemonTCGcardsthat went out of print in the early 2010s.

The total value of Claris-chang’s pulls largely depends on whether they choose to grade the cards and the ratings they receive. E.g., by far the most valuable pull from the pack is the HeartGold and SoulSilver Feraligatr (#20), which only goes for around $5 ungraded, but its PSA 10 variant most recently exchanged hands for $472 on eBay. Claris-chang labeled this pull as the highlight of the pack, not least because they are currently working oncompleting a living Pokedexthat was still missing Feraligatr before this happy discovery.
I ripped it because I thought it would be fun. And it was.
The second most valuable card that emerged from this HeartGold and SoulSilver pack is Vulpix (#87), which can currently fetch prices of up to $80 for a PSA 10. The likelihood of Claris-chang’s pulls receiving high grades is unclear, as the photo of the cards they shared doesn’t clearly communicate the exact condition they are in—with the sole exception of Meowth, which seems to be in bad shape. The player’s stated goal of completing a living Pokedex also suggests they may not be interested in grading the cards at all.
