Summary
Although the game came out just four months ago,Pokemon TCG Pockethas become a mass success given its mobile appeal and the fact that it features a more streamlined gameplay compared to its physical counterpart without removing the fun of collecting cards. The game can be arguably played without spending a dime, but there are various advantages to doing so, with the most obvious being that one can finish their collection sooner. There have been many alleged leaks surrounding a possible new release, apparently calledset A2a forPokemon TCG Pocket, and the rumors surrounding the cards hereby included may start a new and potentially frustrating meta.
One of the most common theories, which also took the form of an alleged leak, is that set A2a will be all about Arceus and be called “Origin Temple.” This would make perfect sense considering the theme ofPokemon TCG Pocket’s Space-Time Smackdown update, which features a plethora of Gen 4 critters and predominantly focuses on Dialga and Palkia, with Giratina and the Lake Trio being present as well. According to some rumors, regardless of its main theme, the set will allegedly be inspired by the recent release ofPokemon TCGand include multiple Eeveelutions and their respective Ex cards.
Pokemon TCG’s Prismatic Evolutions setis the most recent release for the physical game, and it features Eevee and all its evolutions.
Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Leaked A2a Set Could Bring Back Continuous Steps Eevee
If the leaked A2a set truly includes multiple Eeveelutions in their regular and Ex versions, then it seems most likely that at least some of them will be playable and make their way into the meta. If this happens, then it’s quite plausible that, barring a new more powerful Eevee card, players will start including theContinuous Steps Eevee from Mythical Islandin their decks, which can lead to a very frustrating meta.
This is because Continuous Steps is an attack that heavily relies on RNG, as it deals 20 damage to the opponent for each heads on a coin flip, stopping whenever players get tails. One can potentially one-shot some of the bestmeta cards inPokemon TCG Pocketon turn one just by getting multiple heads on Continuous Steps, which can be ridiculously broken. The same holds true on the opposite side of the spectrum, as one can hypothetically get tails on the first flip and do 0 damage, even multiple times in a row. Either way, a resurgence of Continuous Steps is quite likely to make many fans upset.
Why a Continuous Steps Meta in Pokemon TCG Pocket Would be Bad
Continuous Steps is not too dissimilar from another extremely powerful card in the game, though.Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Mistycan generate infinite Energy - or rather, one Energy every time players hit heads when flipping a coin, much like Eevee’s infamous move. Some players use it in Articuno Ex and Palkia Ex decks to get max Water Energy on turn one, when their Energy Zone would normally be empty, and then use a devastating attack on the opponent - sometimes even winning on that same turn before the match has properly started.
For these reasons, a Continuous Steps meta combined with Misty decks could be very detrimental to the competitive scene of the game. It’s still unclear what thenext expansions forPokemon TCG Pocketwill truly entail, but it doesn’t seem farfetched to think that a set like Prismatic Evolutions could be released this year followingPokemon TCG’s success. A new set of Ex cards based on Eeveelutions would be sure to at least make some players try and build decks around them, and if they prove to be popular or powerful, it’s only logical progression to see the return of the controversial Continuous Steps meta - for better or for worse. Right now players will have to wait and see, but set A2a may be just around the corner.
