Summary

A new femaleTwitchstreamer recently went viral on social media, but she’s actually AI-generated. The use of AI in any type of medium has been highly contested by many people, including those who are immersed in content creation on platforms likeTwitch.

The concerns around AI are mostly rooted in the potential loss of livelihood for people, especially creatives, because of how rampant the advanced technology is utilized in writing, art, filmmaking, and more. Over on Twitch, many streamers and viewers alike have expressed their displeasure with the technology, like the one timeVTubers slammed Twitch for labeling their content as AI-generated. A number of creators have also dabbled with it to stream content with AI-generated streamers or gameplay.

The latest AI-generated content that made the rounds on social media was a Twitch streamer created by artist and filmmaker Jamian Gerard. He shared a five-second Twitter video of a realistic-looking woman wearing a pink hoodie and sitting in front of her streaming setup, who smiles and waves at the camera. Gerard’s caption read, “The Twitch streamer isn’t real. She’s 100% AI-generated. Welcome to the uncanny valley.”

AI-Generated Twitch Streamer Draws Mixed Reactions

Many people were admittedly impressed and shocked that the female Twitch streamer was AI-generated, noting that if anyone was quickly scrolling past the video, they wouldn’t suspect anything weird. However, a number of people also pointed out that the streamer’s hands were a dead giveaway because they became blurry when she waved and moved the other one from the keyboard to the table. One also noticed issues with the streamer’s eye movement, and the appearance of the wires and letters in her surroundings. Gerard acknowledged these flaws, but seems confident that he could refine AI-generated content like this using a combination of Google Veo 2 and video editing program CapCut. In fact, one look at his profile shows multiple realistic-looking people made with AI, and even aGTA-inspired video in response toGTA 6’s lack of a gameplay trailer.

Meanwhile, a lot of people also noted how “scary” it is that AI can look realistic, expressing concern over social media platforms being littered with people like Gerard’s creation. Although there isn’t a known AI-generated human streamer yet, anAI VTuber named Neuro-sama has become popular and even got banned on Twitchfor hateful conduct.

In the past, other creators have attempted to entertain people using AI-generated content, such as theonce-viral AISeinfeldTwitch streamand Claude Plays Pokemon, where an AI tool attempts to play throughPokemon Red and Blue. Considering how advanced and responsive many tools have become, it’s quite understandable why many people are extra cautious about the content they consume online.
