If players want to become the Legend of the East inRed Dead Redemption 2to fully unlock their attributes max potential and gain a new outfit, then they are going to need to complete an abundance of challenges. There are 9 unique challenge sets inRed Dead Redemption 2, and each of them has 10 ranks for players to push through to become the best.
Yet, while some of these challenges can be as simple as picking herbs or hunting a deer, others are a tad unfair in the prerequisites that they hold to make Arthur Morgan’s life a living hell as he repeatedly tries the same challenge in the hope of a different outcome. So, when players are grinding out challenges, it’s worth being aware of the hardest challenges inRDR2that will impact any playthrough.
8Horseman Rank 9
Ride from Van Horn to Blackwater in Less Than 17 Minutes Without Touching Water
By Horseman Rank 9, players should hopefully have a well-bonded horse, stirrups, and a saddle that will make this experience a tad easier, since they are going to need to ride from Van Horn to Blackwater. Not only is this only availableto do during the Epilogue, as attempting this before the Epilogue will see Arthur pursued by bounty hunters, lawmen, and an invisible sniper, but it’s also a long journey.
The easiest way to do this challenge is by sticking to the train tracks that connect the states, but it’s no easy task to go from as far as Annesburg to the bottom left area of Blackwater, and while 17 minutes can be considered as generous, it’s still a lengthy amount of time to spam X/A to ride a horse while force-feeding it tonics to keep the stamina up.
7Sharpshooter Rank 4
Kill Someone 80 Feet Away with a Tomahawk
Tomahawks are a fun and brutal weapon that Arthur can make use of in his arsenal, but to get a kill from over 80 feet away with one is not going to be an easy time. Not only does the auto-targeting stop at such an absurdly far distance for the tomahawk but using Dead Eye from that range will also not work as players would want it to.
Sharpshooter Rank 4 is easily attempted when players stack up on tomahawks, as there is a respawning O’Driscoll camp at Hanging Dog Ranch, West of Wallace Station in West Elizabeth, and players can repeatedly time their tomahawk throws until one lands in a skull. Alternatively, they can enter Dead Eye with a full bar, target an enemy with the tomahawk, and while still in Dead Eye, run as far as possible.
6Gambler Rank 9
With Three Games of Dominoes in a Row
Nothing is more intimidating than attempting the Gambling challenges, especially when the requirement for Rank 9 is to win three games of Dominoes in a row. That’s not rounds of Dominoes, but wins, meaning players have to build up enough points per game against their opponents without faltering. However, there’s a neat trick for this challenge.
Gambler Rank 9 isn’t the hardest challenge due to the specific factors involved, as players can jump into any variation of Dominoes, and if they areabout to lose, simply back out of the table and rejoin it to continue the streak as if nothing happened.
5Horseman 10
Break Every Wild Horse Breed
Horseman 10 is going to take quite a while to complete, as it requires players to break every wild horse breed found inRed Dead Redemption 2. Luckily, not every breed of horse is wild, so players will only have 9 horse breeds to break, but still, finding them can be a tad painful to those who do not know where to look, and even more painful when the specific breed you are trying to find doesn’t spawn:
4Weapons Expert Rank 10
Kill a Grizzly Bear without Taking Damage, Using Only Throwing Knives
Grizzly Bears are found in the western area of West Elizabeth, but even then, players are going to struggle a bit to find one, and especially to kill one by just throwing knives. Sure, players can use poison throwing knives – but they are going to need to bring as many as they can carry to pierce the thick muscle and fat of a bear thatwon’t go down without a fight.
Grizzly Bears are brutal predators inRed Dead Redemption 2, and a throwing knife to the head won’t put one down instantly, so players are going to need to keep a safe distance and throw as many blades as they can without being overwhelmed and attacked by the bear to force them to retry the challenge.
3Gambler Rank 10
Win Three Hands of Poker in a Row
Not even an expert poker face can make Gambler Rank 10 any easier, as this challenge has players head off to play some cards in an effort to win three hands in a row. That means winning each main pot by having the best cards or forcing every other opponent to fold, but bluffing can be a risky game since NPC poker players might havea winning hand.
This challenge isn’t like Gambler Rank 9, as players can’t just back out of this one to save progress, and it’s all about luck and perseverance in trying to make everyone fold to win the pot three times and claim victory over this penultimate Gambler challenge.
2Master Hunter Rank 7
Use Bait to Lure and Kill Both a Herbivore and a Predator
There are two kinds of bait that can be purchased inRed Dead Redemption 2: Herbivore Bait and Predator Bait. To complete this challenge, players will need to head out somewhere in the wilderness where they know there is a healthy amount of herbivores and predators that spawn, and then, it’s time to place the first round of bait andkill the animalwithout scaring potential predators away.
This challenge takes some time, as even after killing a herbivore with bait, and then setting up more bait for the predator, it’s often that the predator will not come, or it simply will not count. It’s a challenge that requires patience and stillness to avoid a skittish animal from retreating.
1Gambler Rank 8
Win Three Hands of Blackjack with a Total of Five Cards or More
Gambler Rank 8 is by far the hardest challenge inRed Dead Redemption 2. While future Gambler challenges will cause players some grief, none are as powerful as this – in which players must win three hands of Blackjack with three hits or more. This means that players need a total of 5 cards before they hit Blackjack or stand, and hope that it’s enough to beat the dealer.
Gambler Rank 8 is entirely based on RNG and luck, and there is no factor of skill involved, especially when the house (usually) always wins. Claiming 5 cards without going bust is extremely difficult, so players need to justbe patient with this challenge, and bet the lowest amount possible.
