Summary
Rocksteady recently posted a job listing for a new Game Director, adding more evidence to fuel speculation about a newBatman: Arkhamgame. The London-based Rocksteady Studios made a name for itself with the originalBatman: Arkhamtrilogy, earning high praise for each game’s gripping gameplay, haunting atmosphere, and emotional storylines that brought the Dark Knight and his rogue’s gallery to life in a way few video games had before. Even though the most recent spin-off, 2024’sSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, was met with a divisive reception, plenty of fans are still eager to see Rocksteady return to Gotham City someday.
A recent report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier suggested that Rocksteady could be doing exactly that with its next project, which is said to be a newsingle-playerBatmangamethat could still be years away from release. The exact details of this newBatmantitle remain a mystery, particularly if it will be set in the acclaimedBatman: Arkhamuniverse or be a reboot of some kind. It is also worth noting that thisBatmangame hasn’t been confirmed in any official capacity, so there is still a chance that Rocksteady isn’t working on it at all.
However, Rocksteady is apparently hiring a new Game Director to work on future projects, according to a recent job listing on the developer’s website (viaThe Gamer). This listing notes that the candidate for the job will be tasked with “delivering high-quality design across the game, including core gameplay mechanics, player progression, combat systems, and mission design.” While nothing specific is mentioned, the listing does ask that any would-be applicants haveexperience with third-person action games, melee brawler combat, and open-world transversal systems.
Rocksteady Wants New Game Director for Future Projects
All three of these are central tenants of theBatman: Arkhamseries, so this job listing could be another clue that Rocksteady is working on a new gameset in its acclaimed Arkhamverse. Of course, this could just as easily be another third-person action title, and it will likely be some time before Rocksteady officially confirms what its next project will be.
In the meantime, while Rocksteady ended support forSuicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leagueearlier this year, the Arkhamverse still managed to get some goodwill from gamers thanks to thesuccess ofBatman: Arkham Shadowon the Meta Quest 3 last October. Only time will tell if Rocksteady will build on its beloved universe with a brand-newBatman: Arkhamtitle or offer up a new take on DC’s legendary detective in its next major gaming project.
