The series' outing to feudal Japan has been requested byAssassin’s Creedfans for many years, but areportback in 2024 claimed that there have been numerous issues with the game’s development. Ubisoft Quebec reportedly pushed for a delay for several months so that it could address “cultural and historical accuracy concerns” raised by the community, as well as to iron out any bugs. After being delayed from November 2024 to February 2025, Ubisoft once again hit fans with another delay, this time to July 15, 2025. However, the studio is supposedly confident that this is the final setback.
Ubisoft Reportedly Confident in Assassin’s Creed Shadows Release Date
In a newreportfrom Insider Gaming, industry insider Tom Henderson claimed that multiple sources within Ubisoft have claimed that the studio is “confident” thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowswill be released on June 14, 2025. According to Henderson’s sources within Ubisoft, the studio has made preparations to increase its marketing for the next entry in theAssassin’s Creedfranchise. One developer at Ubisoft even told Henderson thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowsis “pretty much done,” which means the odds of another delay are slim, but definitely not impossible. At the time of writing, Ubisoft has not announced thatAssassin’s Creed Shadowshas gone gold.
Although the nextAssassin’s Creedgame has had a rocky development cycle, it doesn’t appear to have had an impact on its pre-orders. According to Ubisoft,pre-orders forAssassin’s Creed Shadowsare “solid,” but the studio did not provide any concrete numbers. However, Ubisoft did state in a quarterly earnings call that the game’s pre-orders were similar to that ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey, which is one of the most successful entries in the series. With over 4 weeks still to go until the launch ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows, pre-orders will likely continue to rise.
Pre-orders may show a positive sign for the title, butAssassin’s Creed Shadowshasn’t been without controversy. A recent clip showing Yasuke (one ofAssassin’s Creed Shadows’two playable protagonists) destroying a Japanese shrine recently went viral on social media, with a vocal minority claiming that the act is disrespectful. However, many other fans were quick to defend Ubisoft and noted that players control their actions within the game. As there is no forced requirement for players to destroy shrines, this action comes solely from the individual playingAssassin’s Creed Shadows.
