Summary

Daredevil: Born Againis almost upon the Marvel Cinematic Universe after years of fan requests, and a new report suggests that the show has already secured a big victory for the fans set to debut with the show’s upcoming second season.

Daredevil: Born Againhad fans excited when it was finally announced, bringing Charlie Cox’s take on the Man Without Fear from Netflix’sDaredevilinto the MCU. Despite a lot of positive vibes going into the project, it would be scrapped and completely overhauled at the behest of Marvel Studios kingpin Kevin Feige, causing a restructuring of ongoing and current MCU Disney+ show production across the board. The show has received a lot of behind-the-scenes confidence at Marvel Studios since the overhaul, including renewals and more creative licenses to link Daredevil: Born Again with the Netflix-era show. This connection is so ingrained in this new take that the in-development second season is evenrumored to bring back aDaredevilcharacter that fans thought was gone for goodback in the Netflix era.

While aMarvel exec teasedDaredevil: Born Againopening the door for Daredevil’s Netflix-era allies, a new report suggests that those comments might have undersold the studio’s progress in bringing those allies into the franchise. According toMyTimeToShineHello on X, at least one Defender is already scheduled to join the MCU in the second season ofDaredevil: Born Again. While some fans were quick to point out that Daredevil himself counts as a Defender and will definitely be in the second season, others took the news as intended and showed a lot of excitement at the prospect. Daredevil alum Vincent D’Onofrio promised some big payoffs for fans in the show’s second season, and a returning Defender would certainly count as one.

Back in 2022, when the company made the decision to bring the Netflix-era shows into the fold on the streamer, the Parent TV Council came out againstDaredevilandThe Defenderscoming to Disney+. This was done with the understanding that the shows, while not within the MCU, held TV-MA ratings and would be appealing to younger fans of the mainline Marvel Cinematic Universe, being Marvel shows themselves. The situation has come a long way since then, withDaredevil: Born Againbeing touted as an even more brutal experience than its Netflix predecessor. If the rest of the Defenders are to join him in the franchise’s newly formed street-level world of crime, then they’re likely to enact just as much violence as Daredevil will.

While there are three other Defenders that could be making the jump, fans can probably count out Finn Jones’ Danny Rand. Considering that an animated MCUIron Fist project with a new female lead is rumored to be in the worksfor Disney+, it’s far more likely that Jessica Jones or Luke Cage will be making the jump to the MCU. While it had strong viewership for both seasons,Iron Fistis generally seen as the weakest of the Netflix-era shows, so that also works against his chances. Kristen Ritter has been dropping (not so) subtle hints about a potential return for a while now, so it looks like fans will be seeing her back first. Ritter is a fan favorite, and her character has a lot of complexities that would help amplify the show’s grounded tone. On the other hand, theDevil’s Reigncomic book storyline that the show seems set to adapt in live-action would be more accurate to the original if Luke Cage was involved in the narrative, so there’s also a good chance that Mike Colter’s character joins the show in the second season to take up his part in the unfolding events. As a character who communicated with the audience with a lot of subtlety in place of exposition, he could be a more challenging but rewarding choice for the show’s narrative and the MCU as a whole.

While even one debut would be a gift, fans can hold out hope for more than one more Defender to joinDaredevil: Born Again’ssecond season. Thanks tothe upcoming show doing away with a bad MCU habitand keeping a more robust runtime and its higher episode count, there should be more than enough time to introduce and properly utilize multiple other heroes. Fans will have to wait until the second season premieres to see whether this report and prediction are accurate or not, but there’s a whole season ofDaredevil: Born Againto enjoy in the interim.

Daredevil: Born Againis set to premiere on Disney+ on June 12, 2025.
