In the fifth episode of season 1 ofSakamoto Days,Sakamoto is forced to take on anold rival from his hit man days,Boiled. Boiled has known Sakamoto for many years, and holds a bit of a grudge towards the legendary hit man due to the fact that Boiled seemed more invested in their friendship than Sakamoto ever did. Due to the massive bounty that Sakamoto currently has on his head, Boiled takes this gig alongside his longtime partner, Obiguro. They both run into Sakamoto and his team while they are out at an amusement park, and take this as their opportunity to capture Sakamoto along with Shin and Lu.

While Sakamoto is in battle with Boiled, he gets taken down relatively easily while in his usual form. Eventually, Sakamoto recalls his previous relationship with Boiled, and because of this, he gets back up and somehow manages to come out of a cloud of smoke having completely lost all of his gained weight. After completing this transformation, even Boiled is incredibly surprised by the feat and wonders how he was able to do it. With his body now back to itsoriginal form when he was a hit man, Sakamoto seems to become much stronger, and he is able to much more easily take down Boiled in battle. After showing off his impressive abilities, Sakamoto and Boiled decide to form a truce, and Sakamoto returns to his team and family, and quickly gains back the weight in a day.

So, how exactly was Sakamoto able to lose all of his weight almost instantaneously?When Shin asks himin episode five how he went back to his original form, Sakamoto explains that it is because moving around makes you lose weight.To be more specific, it seems that after Sakamoto gained all of his weight after getting married and quitting the hit man life, he was still able to maintain his incredibly fast metabolism. After he had a difficult and strenuous battle with Boiled that forced him to move around a lot, he was able to burn a ton of calories that reverted him back to his skinny form.

While this obviously cannot be done in real life, it is true that there are those who havefaster metabolisms, which allow them to lose weight quicker. Sakamoto’s ability is an exaggerated form of this, it seems, but he is also able to gain back all of his weight swiftly, as well. However, this takes a bit more time, usually around a day. All Sakamoto needs to do is eat a ton of food, which is something he normally does anyway, and soon, in episode five, he is back to his usual chubbier form. It is stated earlier in the anime that Sakamoto has a voracious appetite, so it makes sense that he is able to regain all of his weight pretty quickly. He almost always has a snack in hand,even after the battle with Boiledwhen he grabs some meat buns.

While Sakamoto’s swift loss of weight not only stuns those around him, but it also has great use in battle, as well. When Sakamoto is in his typical chubbier form inSakamoto Days,his strength is still incredibly impressive, but isn’t quite at the level it was when he was working as a legendary hit man. When he is battling Boiled, he struggles to keep his former classmate in check, and seemingly loses to him when he is thrown into a wall. After participating in such an intensely physical battle, however, his weight disappears, and he is able to easily put an end to Boiled’s attempts at his life.

This transformation allows him to essentially return to his prime form, and use his full abilities to take down tougher opponents. Whenever Sakamoto is up against weaker enemies, however, his larger form is usually enough to do the job. When he returns to his prime form, it seems that hisspeed and reflexes, along with hisstrength, significantly increase, making it difficult for anybody to stop him. This is an ability that he uses when in dire need toprotect his friends and family, and it will likely reappear in theSakamoto Daysanime.
