Summary
InZOIis getting seasons as part of the base game. It’s a major contrast toInZOIcompetitorThe Sims, which has only included seasons as part of its DLC releases, not the base game.
InZOIhas impressed a lot of gamers with what they’ve seen so far. The game promises fans of life simulators a lot, with impressive lifelike graphics, an in-depth character creator, and an open world that users can play in and customize. Fans ofThe Simshave been curious to see ifInZOIcan truly compete, and now the game is announcing a new feature that sets it apart.
While players have previously seen thatInZOIwould include some different weather conditions,InZOIcreative directorHyungjun Kim has announcedthat actual seasons will be in the base game at launch. Rather than just a mix of weather effects, the game will include all four seasons, andthe player’s Zoiswill have to compensate for the seasonal weather conditions outside, just like real people do. Zois will need to wear weather-appropriate clothing for the season they’re living through, or they will experience detrimental effects like getting sick or even dying. This applies to both hot and cold weather, as Zois will need to keep warm in the cold and cool in the heat, or suffer the consequences. Players will be able to choose a seasonally-appropriate wardrobe for their Zoi to switch into when the weather demands it.
InZOI Seasons and The Sims
Ever sinceThe Sims 2, players have been able to let their Sims enjoy seasonal weather, but only if they buy DLC. Many in the playerbase have voiced their frustration over not only having to spend more money, but also because of the wait involved. BothThe Sims 2andThe Sims 3went three years before their Seasons DLC arrived, whileThe Sims 4players waited for four years. While each new iteration ofThe Simsimproves upon things like graphics and adds new gameplay elements, players can feel frustrated when anewSimsbase game lacks seasons, pets, or other features until later DLC releases.
With that said, players who prefer to keep their Zoi in sunny climates can do that, too. The Dowon world inInZOIwill feature four seasons with cold winters and hot summers, but Bliss Bay will be mostly warm year-round, akin to the weather in Southern California, which it’s based on. However, since most gamers haven’t experienced gameplay pastInZOI’s character creator demo, it remains to be seen whetherInZOIcan meet players' expectations, especially when compared to the juggernaut of life sims that isThe Simsfranchise. Barring further delays, fans will be able to answer that for themselves whenInZOI’s early access launches in March.
