What’s The Difference Between Hunt & Slay Quests In Monster Hunter Wilds

Just about every optional quest has similar conditions for accepting the quest or that lead to failure. Along thetop left of the picture for the optional quest or the top left of the menu for that optional quest will tell you if it’s a hunt or a slay quest, and getting this wrong can be another failure condition depending on what is being asked of you. Here’s what each quest type requires of you:

Hunts will usually be the more common quest type, and they have the most amount of freedom since you may capture orkill the monsterdepending on what you think is best at the moment. Theprocess of capturing larger monsters can be immediate if you tranquilize them, so it’s best to completely stay away from those types of tools in a Slay quest as one too manyTranq Bombswill have you failing the mission. There’s no major difference in rewards for actually completing the quest between Hunt and Slay quests, as rewards are usually determined by the rank of the quest and not how you deal with the monster.

How Do Optional Quests Work In Monster Hunter Wilds

Optional Quests can offer a more familiar Monster Hunter experience that will see players arriving in a region and having a set time to take care of aspecific large monster. While you do have the ability to free roam in that area during the optional quest, defeating or capturing the target will immediately end the questand take you back to wherever you accepted it. You can also choose to form parties for these optional hunts and have other players help you take down monsters, just be sure they know if it’s a Hunt or a Slay quest.
