Summary

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2has addressed increasing player complaints that it’s become a full live-service game. Many players have noticed that some cosmetics in recentSpace Marine 2events seem to be exclusive, frustrating the community, but publisher Focus Interactive has now clarified this.

Space Marine 2was released to critical acclaim last year, with many critics heaping praise on its unique brand of chaos. Developer Saber St. Petersburg has continued to release tons of new updates for the game, including both PvP and PvE content. Last month,Space Marine 2released its 6.0 update, bringing a new PvP map, the new Extremis-tier enemy type, a Battle Barge expansion, and more. In arecent community update,Space Marine 2has “noted that the Community Events have received cold feedback since we introduced them as an additional way to unlock cosmetic items.” Players have claimed that this has generated a fear of missing out, a common tactic employed by live-service titles to drive player engagement. However, the community update claims that “we are not looking to transform Space Marine 2 into a full live service game.” Importantly, allSpace Marine 2cosmeticsreleased as part of these Community Events “WILL be available later, for everyone.”

Space Marine 2 Won’t Become “a Full Live Service Game”

Going forward, the update stated that “we must provide a smooth experience in unlocking said items, which has not been the case so far,” and says, “We deeply apologize for the trouble, and are currently working on a simplified process to unlock the items, to make the experience less constraining.” It’s good for players to have this clarification quickly, as it will hopefully stop players from forcing themselves to play and grind for items out of the fear of missing out.Customizing a Space Marine is one of the most rewarding elements ofSpace Marine 2, but there’s no need to grind Community Events for exclusive items.

The community update also provided an update onSpace Marine2’s previously announced Horde Mode, confirming “it’s one of our top priorities right now.” While it didn’t give much away, it did claim that “it will be very different from the Space Marine 1 Horde Mode, and that there are surprises we can’t wait for you to find out about.” There’s plenty to come, with the 7.0 Update also in the works at the moment.
