November 30 marked the sixth anniversary of Egosoft’sspace combat and trading gamehitting the market.X4: Foundationshas been receiving a steady stream of patches ever since, while also averaging roughly one major content drop per year.
Continuing this trend, another one of the game’s updates materialized in late February 2025. Identified by version number 7.50, this patch keeps building on the7.X version ofX4: Foundations, which originally rolled out in summer 2024. The changelog accompanying the update contains 364 items, with a flight model revamp being the highlight of the patch. Egosoft has completely overhauled the game’s ship flight dynamics with the goal of allowing for smoother maneuvers and making spacecraft more responsive in general.
X4: Foundations Launches Hyperion Pack DLC
Accompanying the newX4: Foundationsupdateis the Hyperion Pack DLC. Priced at $6.99, this content drop includes the Hyperion Expeditionary Ship and a new questline connected to the legendary spacecraft. Fans who are equally interested in a fresh start and the Hyperion itself have the option of starting a new game and gaining immediate access to it. A new sector of the map is also part of the package, together with additional music expanding the sci-fi game’s soundtrack.
As for the free update at hand, the 7.50 patch pairs its overhauled flight model with a Behavior Inspection Mode, a new tool that can be used for monitoring and analyzing spacecraft behavior, thus assisting in running diagnostics and performing fleet maintenance. Another newX4: Foundationsfeatureintroduced in this patch is the velocity indicator, meant to facilitate navigation during chaotic dogfights. Egosoft also added a new radar station module boasting wide-range capabilities, thus expanding the player’s tactical awareness. Some graphical improvements—including support for the DLSS and FSR3 upscaling tech—are also included in this release, together with economy adjustments, ship rebalancing, and dozens of bug fixes, among other novelties.
X4: Foundations 2025–2026 Content Roadmap
Moving forward, Egosoft has one more majorX4: Foundationspatch planned for 2025. According to the developer’s newly shared content roadmap, the game will receive a diplomacy update in Q3 2025, introducing the Diplomatic Headquarters facility—where players will be able to initiate Agent Missions. Another minor paid DLC in the vein of X4: Hyperion Pack is also meant to materialize around this time. For 2026, Egosoft is planning a major “Exploration Update,” bringing new anomalies, improved scanning mechanics, and a wide variety of missions themed around taming the final frontier.
