The final chapter ofSplit Fictionis one of its most mind-bending. After finishing The Hollow, the seventh chapter, Mio and Zoe think they have succeeded in saving their stories. But Rader has other ideas – to stop Mio and Zoe from breaking his machine, Rader breaks into the simulation, gaining godlike abilities and corrupting the machine itself.
The simulationwasn’t even meant for two people, but now that Rader has broken in, things start to getweird.
This complete Split level walkthrough forSplit Fictiontakes players from start to finish in this final level of the game, including solutions for every puzzle, tips to survive the reality-bending mechanics, and tips on how to beat Rader.Split Fictionplayers should buckle up for one of themost psychedelic and visually-impressive levelsinSplit Fictionas the simulation completely breaks.
Subchapter 1: Split Up
After Rader breaks through and takes control of the simulation, Mio and Zoe will awaken to find themselves each in a different version of the same level. Mio’s screen will display the level with science fiction features, while Zoe’s screen will display the level with a fantasy flair.
Continue forward along the main path until you reach a gap where Mio sees two metal platforms, while Zoe sees two tree stumps. This is when things start to get really weird – your characters will meet up as it becomes obvious that something has corrupted the simulation. You can see each other, but Mio and Zoe see different versions of the shared level layout.
Each player should stand on one of the stumps to rotate a crane/tree. Grapple across the gap, then continue across the platforms/rafts to get to the first puzzle.
Crate/Mushroom & Stone Wall Puzzle
Up the path, Mio will see a yellow crate and a large blue battery, while Zoe sees a mushroom and some frog statues. Mio must move the crate across the platform so Zoe can jump off the mushroom in her world to get to a ledge above. Once Zoe has reached the top, kick down a tree to let Mio catch up.
Up ahead, Zoe will see a dead end, while Mio sees a locked metal door with a control panel next to it. Mio must activate the control panel to open the doors and continue.
Carnivorous Plant Crane Puzzle
Continue along the path until you both reach a flying pole and jump on. Slide down the tree trumk/aqueduct, then walk across the bridge. Here, Zoe will see a large carnivorous plant, while Mio sees a controllable crane. Zoe must lure the plant over two flowers on the ground in her world, one of which is above a pit of deadly thorns.
To solve this puzzle, Mio must take control of the target cam panel on the other side of the room, then wait for Zoe to move in front of what appears to Mio as battery packs attached to wires. Press the right trigger the moment the target cam is over one of these batteries to destroy it. Zoe must be quick to avoid the carnivorous plant that damage her in her version of the level.
Pressure Plates & No-Clip Zoe
Continue on the path and grapple across some ledges until you reach what appears to be a room full of frog statues to Zoe, and a room with two metal platforms to Mio.
As Mio, stand on a pressure plate and direct your partner to stand on the correct location to activate the other. Walk up the ramp to reach a room that looks like a sheer drop to Mio, but a room filled with water to Zoe.
Zoe must jump into the water and swim over to a wooden raft. On Mio’s screen, Zoe will appear to be floating in mid-air. Drag the raft back to Mio so she can jump on. Be careful and listen to your partner as Zoe, as Mio has to deal with electricity gates that suddenly appear in her world, but not to Zoe.
Drag the raft over to the end of the room where Mio sees a control panel. Activate this to raise the water level in Zoe’s world, raising the raft upward.
Cannon Puzzle
Jump off the raft (or floating platform, for Mio), and continue along the path until you both reach a room that has a cannon/locked red door for Mio and a fire wall and a large ballista for Zoe. Mio must jump into the cannon and aim at the yellow wire just above the red door. Zoe must climb the ramp to an area to the right of the fire wall, which has a lever that will pour water into the fish buckets that are being drawn along the line.
Pull the lever, keep track of which fish becomes filled with water, then run outside and wait for it to move directly above the fire. Zoe must then direct Mio to fire at the yellow wire in her world when the correct fish bucket is above the fire. Mio does not see anything on the line, so timing and communication is crucial here.
Continue along the path until you both reach a large door. Hold Triangle (Y) to open the door and continue forward.
Subchapter 2: A Warm Greeting
After opening the door, the game will shift perspective as both players share the same screen – but the level itself will still be split in half vertically. During this subchapter in thisSplit FictionSplit level walkthrough, Mio and Zoe must jump between the sci-fi and fantasy sides to survive.
Run forward, then Zoe must jump over to Mio’s side of the screen to avoid a gigantic gap. Then, both Mio and Zoe must jump back to the fantasy side to avoid a scanner wall. A few seconds later, Rader will walk in the middle of the screen in the distance and throw a helicopter/dragon at you, breaking the ground and sending both players onto a slide. Slide to the right side of the screen to avoid the first obstacle, then to the left side to avoid the thorns.
Continue down the slide, taking care not to be too caught off by the mind-blowing Split level visuals during this segment, until you both drop off a ledge. Fall to the right side of the screen to land in a pool of water instead of into helicopter blades.
Swim through the pool until you see a shark in the distance. Jump onto the sci-fi side of the screen and grapple onto a ship that flies up. Take the ride on this ship, which turns into a dragon on the right side of the screen, then drop off onto another slide.
Get to the left side of the screen to avoid the dragon’s fire breath on the fantasy side, then slide to the right side of the screen to avoid falling down a gap on the sci-fi side. Continue swapping back and forth to avoid obstacles as you slide down this slope. Eventually, Rader will show up again and shut down the simulation with a white flash.
Subchapter 3: Face-to-Face
After Rader smashes his hands together Mio and Zoe will return to the normal simulation room. Slide down the ramp and avoid the red cube obstacles that pop up along the way. Slide to avoid the tall ones, and jump to avoid the low wave-like ones.
After a few more platforming obstacles, you will slide off the ledge. Move from side to side to avoid the closing red cube barriers as you fall.
Eventually, you will land on a large floating cube. Here, theSplit FictionRader boss fight properly begins.
Starting The Rader Boss Fight
At first, Rader will use his powers to destroy sections of this cube arena, so use your evade move to quickly get away from areas that will be destroyed (marked in red). After a few waves of attacks, Rader will rise up, summon a swathe of red cubes, then bend the arena into a cylinder.
As it rolls from side to side, dodge and maneuver out of the way of incoming cubes (kind of like aFall Guyslevel), which will kill you if touched.
After Rader bends the arena back into a flat shape, Glitches will start to spawn. As Rader attacks, jump over and avoid the red cubes and pick up as many glitches as you may. Eventually, enough glitches will accumulate in the center of the arena. Interact with this together, but you won’t get a chance to finish before Rader punches you both away. Grapple back to the arena to continue the Rader boss fight.
How To Damage Rader
Both players must get back to the glitch quickly, then interact with it at the same time to activate the glitch. This spawns a minigun for both Mio and Zoe – with the right trigger, you will be able to rapidly shoot Rader and deal damage.
In the next phase, Rader will wield an array of attacks as both Mio and Zoe shoot him down. Avoid his attacks, hold down the trigger to continually fire back, and you will eventually finish the first phase as you shred through his HP.
Rader will collapse into the abyss below, rise back up again behind Mio and Zoe, then elbow drop them back into the simulation and the next part of thisSplit FictionSplit level walkthrough.
Subchapter 4: Worlds Apart
Things were already weird in the simulation once Rader broke through. After he elbow drops Mio and Zoe, both players will wake up once again in their respective sci-fi and fantasy environments. Now, though, the level isn’t split in half vertically – it’s split exactly halfway between both characters, wherever they are on-screen, and will adjust as Mio and Zoe move.
Both Zoe and Mio share a slightly different level layout, but not the same visuals. Platforms that exist on Zoe’s side may not necessarily exist on Mio’s side, and vice versa.
Continue platforming to the right until you find a twisting lever. Mash the triangle or Y button to turn the lever (and see a trippy visual effect as the screen itself rotates between sci-fi and fantasy), then continue forth.
Rockets & Statues Puzzle
Continue forward until you reach an area with three snake statues on the fantasy side of the top of the screen, and three launchers on the bottom of the screen on Mio’s side. To solve this puzzle, Mio must activate the console on the bottom of the screen at the same time that Zoe activates the green orb on the top.
If performed correctly, the rockets will shoot into the statues' mouths, which Zoe can use to cross the river. Mio can simply walk across the metal bridge to continue. Jump across the turtles as Zoe, and across the conveyor belts while avoiding the spikey wheels on Mio’s side, to continue.
Activate the raft/platform, then get ready for a fast-paced platforming section straight out ofMetroid. Jump and climb your way up as fast as possible to avoid being killed. At the top, Rader will smash both Mio and Zoe once again, launching them into an altogether different version of the simulation.
Subchapter 5: Cross Section
For this section of the Split level walkthrough forSplit Fiction, both players see and interact with the same version of the level. But in an extremely unique visual twist, Rader will slide different visuals, like filters, over the existing level layout.
At first, the sci-fi setting will slide over the fantasy setting, then split in half as a pond with lily pads shows up in the middle of the room.
Jump onto the lily pads as fast as you can, because a few seconds later, the sci-fi and fantasy sides will turn into a horde of piranhas. The lily pads will remain, then shrink into a small box surrounded by piranhas.
This box will then move across the screen, shifting the level from piranhas into lily pads as it moves. Jump onto lily pads as they are revealed to survive, then the screen will open up once again.
For this part of the level, Rader will shoot droplets at the environment as it swaps between sci-fi and fantasy. Each droplet opens an expanding portal into a dangerous part of anotherSplit Fictionlevel, like piranhas, lava, a spike trap, and other environmental dangers.
The level will transition back to the fantasy setting, then a clockhand will rotate around the screen, revealing a square of Piranhas in the bottom left, a sci-fi section in the bottom right, a spike trap in the top right, and a pond in the top left.
Quickly get to the top left once the screen splits into four quadrants. The split will start to rotate, revealing more of each quadrant’s scenery as it spins. Keep up with the pond quadrant by jumping from lily pad to lily pad until the rotation stops.
Suddenly, the screen will split back into a fantasy and sci-fi side, then Rader will appear below the path and crush the screen with his hands, triggering a white explosion and the next part of the level.
Subchapter 6: Fight a God
After the white flash subsides, Mio and Zoe will wake up to find themselves in a lava-filled arena. Rader will rise out of the magma, pick up a large sword, and start wildly swinging at our heroines.
Jump over Rader’s side-to-side sweeps, then quickly dodge to the side of his overhead slam and jump to avoid the flame waves that radiate from it.
Like the first phase of the Rader boss fight,Split Fictionplayers will start to see glitches spawn around the arena. Continue to avoid Rader’s attacks, collect the glitches, then interact with the coalesced glitch mass in the center of the arena.
Mio and Zoe will both get a greatsword from this glitch. Like the minigun, press the right trigger to launch a ranged attack at Rader – this time, it’s aLegend of Zelda-style sword beam.
In the waterfall arena Rader teleports you to, spam the right trigger to deplete Rader’s HP bar as he launches volleys of ranged and AoE attacks at you. It’s difficult not to get hit by some attacks, but do your best to dodge out of the way and attack when you aren’t in active danger.
After his HP reaches 50%, he will turn the arena from a scenic waterfall scene into a zero-g asteroid in space. Follow the same tactics – avoid his ranged attacks with well-timed dodges, shoot sword lasers at Rader when you have the opportunity, and eventually he will fall off the asteroid into the void…. but not for long.
Subchapter 7: A New Perspective
Rader will fly up and smash into the asteroid, and after a brief cutscene, Mio will find herself trapped inside of a TV screen. In an interesting turn of perspective, Zoe will be standingonthe TV screen. Mio plays like in a normal level, while Zoe can only move as if from a top-down view.
During this section, Zoe must activate certain environmental triggers in Mio’s TV world to allow her to progress. Stomp the button on the door to open the next room.
Here, Mio must jump on top of the crate on the pulley. Then, Zoe must Stomp the green hitch to push Mio up.
On the next screen, Zoe must stomp all three panels from left to right, then Mio must jump across the platforms Zoe creates and wallrun to the other side. You will transition to a new screen, Rader will smash the platform Mio is standing on, and she will fall into a pit.
A conveyor belt will try to pull Mio into the grinder on the left side of the screen while crates drop from the sky. Zoe must Stomp the grey crates (typically at the bottom of each pile that drops) so that Mio can platform and stay away from the grinder.
After surviving for long enough, Rader will appear once again and smash the TV screen to smithereens, triggering the penultimate part of the Rader boss fight.
Subchapter 8: Outside the Box
For this part of theSplit Fictionfinal level, Zoe will find herself trapped inside of a tablet device screen. While holding the tablet Zoe is trapped in, Mio can tilt left and right to cause objects in the environment to move, and to give Mio better jumping distance for some gaps by lowering a ledge.
Mio must first tilt the screen to the left to make a crate slide towards a wooden platform. Then, Zoe must jump up and onto the vine. Continuing to the right, Mio must tilt the screen to the right to lower a drawbridge. Zoe must jump onto the bridge and wait for Mio to tilt the screen fully to the right so she can make the gap up to the ledge.
After Rader appears and destroys the bridge forward, tilt the screen to the left to give Zoe a platform she can stand on. Once she is on the platform, tilt the screen to the right to move her to the other side.
After Zoe crosses the threshold into a sci-fi environment, let her climb onto a pole, then Mio must tilt the screen to the right. Be careful, though, as there are a series of fire obstacles in the way. Wait for them to turn off, then turn the screen all the way to the right to bring Zoe across.
Tilt the screen to get Zoe across a gap with a rope, then wait for her to jump onto the battering ram-like platform. Tilt the screen all the way to the right to break the glass and send Zoe through.
In the next area, Zoe must jump onto a minecart, then Rader attacks once again. Tilt the screen to the right and wait for Zoe to make it through several platforming sections as Rader’s corrupted red wall of death follows her. Tilt to the left to slow down if the cart is traveling faster than Zoe.
In the next section, wait for Zoe to climb onto a wheel and tilt to the right again. Zoe must follow the path forward until Rader appears again in the background. There will be two lasers on either side of Zoe in this part of the escape sequence.
Mio must tilt the screen to the right, taking care not to let Zoe get hit by the red laser. Then, at the platforming section, tilt the screen back and forth so Zoe has room to jump up without being hit. Make it to the top to enter the final stage of the Rader boss fight – and the last section ofSplit Fiction.
Subchapter 9: Final Showdown
This final chapter, fittingly called Final Showdown, sees Mio and Zoe face Rader at the height of his power as he summons enemies and bosses from every other level inSplit Fiction. To start with, he will smash the parking attendant bot from Neon Revenge over and over again into the center of the arena. Stay out of the center and jump over the waves of damage.
He can also wield a gauntlet from the Rise of the Dragon Realm level, hold a portal full of Ogres from the very first level, wield the Hydra from Isolation as an artillery gun, and much more.
Avoid his attacks as best as you may and wait for the glitch to appear in the center of the stage once again. Mio and Zoe must interact with this at the same time, which will give them both a grenade launcher to fight back against Rader.
Hold down the right trigger to shoot Rader while avoiding his multitude of attacks. The grenade launcher is relatively slow, but if you hold down the fire input, your character will fire it while dodging and jumping.
Use this to your advantage to keep up the offensive. Whittle down his HP while avoiding Rader’s attacks, and he will eventually collapse off of the stage. Fall off and follow reader through a series of portals going back through every level environment, then mash Triangle (Y) to force him out of the simulation for good.
After you defeat Rader, congratulations! You and your partner have finishedSplit Fiction.
After the epilogue and credits roll, the only thing left to do is go back and finish off any unfinished Side Stories, earn locked Achievements, and discover hidden secrets!
