Squid GameSeason 2 features new faces, which is somewhat expected since only Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) survived out of the 456 players from the first season. Many players were still alive when the second season ended, but one of them, a fan-favorite, was killed. Some fans shared a way to bring back the said character in season 3 since they had a major contribution to making the last season fun and exciting.
One of the favorites inSquid GameSeason 2is Choi Seung-hyun’s character, Thanos. He was easy to spot because of his purple hair and nails. Also, one would not miss him because of his aggressive behavior, funny antics, erratic actions, and overconfidence. Thanos is a complex character; some find him irritating, but many love him because he adds fun and excitement to the plot. Thus, many were surprised when he was killed in episode 6.One fan theorysuggests bringing Thanos back through Nam-gyu (Noh Jae-won). In one scene, Thanos gives Nam-gyu one of the pills he kept hidden in his crucifix-shaped necklace. Although the exact nature of the pills is unknown, they are implied to be illicit substances that Thanos uses to maintain his carefree demeanor amid the complex and deadly game. Since the pill could alter one’s consciousness, then Thanos could return through Nam-gyu’s hallucinations, per ScreenRant.
Thanos and Nam-gyu bonded over their mutual disdain for Myung-gi (Yin Siwan). Thanos has a personal grievance with Myung-gi after he invested in a cryptocurrency promoted by the latter, which failed, leading to a huge financial loss for the former. Nam-gyu serves as Thanos' right hand, so it’s unsurprising that he shares the same contempt against Myung-gi. Bringing back Thanos in the final season is not unlikely since many love the character, including theSquid Gamecreator and director Hwang Dong-hyuk , who admitted thatThanos is among his favorite charactersin the second season. He also teased a potential return for Thanos, saying, “The way he leaves the story, if you watch until the third season, it will almost feel as if he’s still there in some ways in terms of how he affects the plot.” Nam-gyu could do terrifying things due to Thanos' pills, which still ties the latter to the story.
Thanos is a memorable character, and bringing him back to the final season is a move many will surely embrace because they love him. Since Thanos is very influential to Nam-gyu, he could appear in the latter’s hallucinations and push him to make more violent choices inSquid GameSeason 3. This will be a chilling way to keep his presence alive. Also, this is a great way to psychologically bring back Thanos' chaotic and unpredictable character. Thanos' untimely death was unexpected, but it only made his character all the more unforgettable because no one saw his death coming. Even after Thanos' demise, many want to know the character more. Dong-hyuk was even asked if he was open to making a spin-off about the character’s backstory and he said, “I’ll think about it.”
