Swornis an action-roguelike that borrows a lot of inspiration fromHades. You play as a Soulforged in a corrupted version of Avalon, fighting to defeat Arthur and his twisted Knights of the Round Table. The premise alone is enough to capture the attention of many fans of the genre.
One of the main ways the game differentiates from Supergiant Games’s hitroguelike is its multiple character system. You can choose from four different characters, each with their own unique weapons, skills, and playstyle. However, before you can start playing around with the characters, you’ll have to unlock them. In this guide, we’ll explain how the character unlock system works inSwornand show you how to unlock each of them.
How to Unlock All Characters in Sworn
There are a total of four characters inSworn: Vigilante, Rook, Specter, and Monk. When you start the game, you’ll only be able to play with Vigilante. It’s a straightforward melee class that starts with a sword as its primary weapon.
To unlock the subsequent characters, you’ll need to play the game and clear rooms as a specific class. Then, spend Fairy Embers to buy the new character when you return to Carmarthen Tower, the game’s main hub. Interact with the Character Statues near the spawn point once you meet the requirements to unlock the character.
Fairy Embers are earned as rewards for completing the relevant rooms during your run.
Each character unlock is tied to the character you unlocked before it. The unlock order is:

Clear 15 Rooms as Rook + 40x Fairy Embers
You don’t have to progress to a certain point in the story to unlock any of these characters. If you die after clearing only one room, it will still count towards your unlock requirements.
Since there’s a specific order to how you unlock characters inSworn, you’ll have to try out every single character as you progress through the game. This system ensures you give each character a chance before you start focusing on one for your future runs. There are no “best class” in this game and each character has a completely unique playstyle.
Once you’ve unlocked a character, you can switch between them in Carmarthen Tower. Simply interact with the statue of the character in the hub to start your run with the character. Of course, you won’t have access to any of their weapons or spells other than the basic ones. However, the upgrades from The Source and the Enhancements shop will remain active across all characters inSworn.
