Brian Geraghty, who plays Zane Davis, the loyal foreman to Harrison Ford’s character Jacob Dutton inParamount+‘sYellowstonespinoff1923, recently opened up about his experience working alongside the legendary actor. TheParamount+series chronicles the Dutton family in 1923 as they navigate a challenging era marked by Prohibition, a severe drought, and the onset of the Great Depression, which hit Montana years before the 1929 Wall Street Crash.
Season 2 oftheYellowstoneprequelplunges the Dutton family into a brutal winter, with both internal and external threats adding to their struggle. As Jacob Dutton heads to Bozeman to assist with a case, Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) and Elizabeth “Liz” Dutton face a deadly danger at home. Meanwhile, Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) embarks on his journey back to Montana, with his return vital to the family’s survival.
At the show’s Season 2 premiere red carpet in Los Angeles, Geraghty shared his thoughts on what it’s been like to collaborate with Ford, who recently joined the MCUas the Red Hulk. “I love Harrison,” Geraghty toldPeople Magazine. “He’s a funny guy, and he wants to be there. He loves it. He takes it really seriously. He’s there for us as actors.” Geraghty also admitted that working alongside such a legendary figure was initially intimidating. He recalled stepping onto set and feeling the weight of the moment, knowing he was about to share the screen with one of Hollywood’s biggest names. “The first day I thought I was going to die,” he admitted. “I was like, how am I going to get through this? I was so nervous because whenever you have the opportunity to work with somebody like that … actors that are bigger than life, you’ve got to move through the nerves.”
Brian Geraghty on Picking Harrison Ford’s Brain: ‘Timing Is Everything’
Fortunately, Dame Helen Mirren, who portrays Cara Dutton, helped to ease the tension on set. “Helen made it so easy for us,” Geraghty said. Mirren herself previously shared how much the cast admires Ford. “Harrison is such a bloke. He’s what in England we call a bloke. He is a guy, and because he’s a bloke, all the other blokes absolutely love him, and quite rightfully,” Mirren noted, adding that Ford is always kind to the other actors, creating an inviting atmosphere on set. Even in the freezing cold, as the cast sits on quirky, uncomfortable chairs, the other men often gather around Ford, simply wanting to enjoy his company. “He’s always so lovely to all the other actors,” Mirren added. “And so we do all sit in the freezing cold on set, on funny, funky, little uncomfortable chairs, and the other guys just gather around Harrison because they just want to be in his company.”
When it comes to askingHarrison Ford about his legendary roles, Brian Geraghty believes timing is everything. He shared that he only brings up the topic if it feels natural and the conversation is already flowing comfortably. Geraghty admitted he understands the desire to move beyond past roles, even noting how he himself can get frustrated when fans bring up his work from a decade ago. “If it’s an earnest question, if it’s like we’re having a good time and we’re feeling like we can converse,” he explained. “But I do feel like approaching anybody about their iconic roles, I even get annoyed if somebody knows me from something I did 10 years ago. I’m trying to do other things." For Geraghty, acting is all about building trust, and delving into iconic roles can sometimes feel like crossing a line. He prefers to keep discussions relevant to the present, avoiding any sense of prying into Ford’s past achievements. Despite this, Geraghty felt fortunate to spend so much time on set with Ford. In fact, nearly 80% of his scenes were with him. The actor later revealed that Ford’s humor made the experience all the more enjoyable.
Season 2 centers on Jacob and Cara Dutton as they battle to pay taxes on their ranch to Donald Whitfield. Meanwhile, Spencer sets out on a mission to return to Montana and save his family, while Alexandra undertakes her own journey across the ocean to reunite with him.
