In just a few short months, HBO’sThe Last of Uswill return with its much anticipated season 2, adapted from Naughty Dog’s plot of the second game. However, before fans get a chance to dive into what events will take place this time around, the actor who will play Abby Anderson wants to set the record straight on those “extra security” rumors that have been floating around.
The Last of Usseason 2will welcome back returning stars Pedro Pascal (Joel), Bella Ramsey (Ellie), Gabriel Luna (Tommy), and Rutina Wesley as Maria, as well as some new editions, that include Isabela Merced as Dina,Catherine O’Hara in a mystery role, Jeffrey Wright as Issac and Young Mazino as Jesse but one controversialappearance for season 2 ofThe Last of Ushas been the introduction of Abby Anderson, which has many fans of the game talking. Played by Kaitlyn Dever in the TV show, Abby is a member of the Fireflies who became completely broken by the death of her father and made it her mission to avenge his demise in any way possible, even bulking up her physique to remain strong in the face of her upcoming war.
Kaitlyn Dever Clears up The Last of Us Season 2 On-Set Rumor
Even thoughDever won’t have the same bulky build as Abby inThe Last of Us Part 2, which has divided many fans since the news was disclosed, another delicate subject had been previously circulating regarding Dever needing to have “extra security” while filming for season 2 because of an increase in potential threats due to the game character’s actions. During an interview last year with Josh Horowitz on hisHappy Sad Confusedpodcast,Isabela Merced, who will play Dina, revealed that Dever was given extra security on set but now, speaking toVariety, Dever said that those claims are simply “not true.”
When posed with the question about whether she was prepared for the onslaught of this huge fandom, as well as reiterating what Merced said, Dever was quick to clear up those rumors once and for all.“Well, firstly, I have to say, actually, that’s not true, and I didn’t ever personally say that,” Dever replied. “I know that was said a while ago and it is not true.”In a bid to remain as positive as possible regarding her role asAbby inThe Last of Us Season 2, Dever had nothing but good things to say about her experience so far. “I’m bringing my own sort of energy to it, if that makes sense. I want to do the character justice, and I hope that people enjoy what I do with that.”
While it’s great to hear that Dever didn’t need any extra security in the end, it still leaves the question of why Merced had made the comment to begin with. It could be simply crossed wires or a break-down in communication in some way, asLaura Bailey, who portrayed Abby through motion capture and voice acting in the game, received horrific abusefrom some players, including death threats against her baby son. It goes without saying that fans sincerely hope that Dever’s character inThe Last of Usseason 2 won’t receive the same hate as Abby’s did whenThe Last of Us Part 2launched in 2020.
The Last of UsSeason 2 is set to finally return in April 2025. However, as yet, a specific premiere date hasn’t been shared by HBO.
