Summary
Solo Levelingis a world filled with monstrously powerful individuals outside Sung Jinwoo. With humanity being influenced by mana, they undergo awakenings that grant them increased strength, speed, agility, and special abilities. Individuals who undergo an awakening become hunters and explore the dungeons that pop up all over the world. Hunters fall into one of several categories of ranks, from E to S. While S-rank hunters are the crème of the crop, they are few and far between. A-rank hunters are much more available; however, the power gap is significant.
A-rank Hunters are the front line of defense against powerful creatures that reside in dungeons and break out to attack the human world. The majority of A-rank hunters lack the god complexes and narcissism of S-Rank hunters, making them more dependable and grounded in reality. A-rank hunters are still considered some of the most powerful individuals in the world, capable of incredible feats of strength and magical ability.
8Lee Minsung
A Hunter In Rank Only
Lee Minsung made his debut in theSolo Levelinganime recently. Set to be announced as an A-rank hunter, his press conference was overshadowed by the announcement of Sung Jinwoo as the next S-rank hunter. The vain and egotistical Minsung grew enraged, but was quickly the news of yesterday, losing out on what he thought was his big day to rise to stardom.
InSolo Leveling, Lee Minsung doesn’t get much screen time, and his combat ability is questionable. The only instance of battle shown with Lee Minsung is inthe Jiju Island raidwhere he is stationed to protect the coastal border with other A-ranks. When a swarm of red ants begins to charge the ship he is on, he freezes and can barely function in battle. This shows just how incapable he is, and as an A-rank hunter, he’s scraping the bottom of the barrel.
7Hanekawa
Above Average Hand-to-Hand Abilities
Hanekawa is an A-rank hunter from Japan who belongs to theDrawn Sword guild. She first appeared in theSolo Levelinganime in episode twenty, alongside the S-rank hunter, Goto Ryuji, as his translator. However, further in the Manwa series, she participates in the training session and demonstrates her hand-to-hand skills against Jongsoo. While Hanekawa appears to have strong striking abilities and decent speed, she still falls short of her Korean counterpart and is bested in an instant. An argument could be made that she lacks experience, which means her potential to grow is likely.
6Lee Bora
A Strong Support Mage
Lee Bora belongs to the Hunters guild and debuted in Solo Leveling episode six. Lee Bora is also a member of the Raid Party led by Son Kihoon in episode seventeen. As a mage class Hunter, Lee Bora excels at ranged support magic and possesses incredibly potent magical abilities like the ability to retrain targets. Along with her allies and aid from Sung Jinwoo, she could hold her own against High Orcs in the A-rank dungeon they became trapped in. While ordinarily they would have been overwhelmed, she did an admirable job of protecting her group and herself.
5Gina
A Power Mage With A Multitude Of Spells
Gina is also a member of the raid party led by Son Kihoon, who was trapped inside the gate with the High Orcs. Just like Lee Bora, Gina is a mage-class hunter who excels at offensive magic. As seen in episode seventeen ofSolo Leveling, she was able to completely annihilate a pack of hounds with a single spell. When the high orcs attacked, Gina was also shown to be capable of blasting one away with a powerful fire spell, unlike her mage allies. Unfortunately, before the leader of the high orcs, she paled compared to its magical abilities and was useless.
4Seo Jiwoo
A Vicious Hand-to-Hand Fighter
Seo Jiwoo was a standout character in episode seventeen ofSolo Levelingand rose to be a fan favorite due to her skills in the series. Seo Jiwoo is afighter-class hunterlike a monk and excels at getting up close and personal with enemies. Her strikes are incredibly powerful and effective, being able to stun a High Orc one-on-one, and may have even won the fight if it was fair. Unfortunately for Jiwoo, she was overwhelmed by numbers and was blindsided by an orc, showing she could not handle more than one opponent at a time.
3Son Kihoon
Versatile In Tanking And Attacking
Son Kihoon is a member of the Hunters Guild and the leader of the party of A-rank hunters who ventured into the dungeon of high orcs with Sung Jinwoo. Son Kihoon was a humble and respected hunter by his peers.
He was portrayed as someone who obtained an admirable amount of wisdom and experience that made him an adept leader. As a tanker-class hunter, Kihoon’s position was on the frontline, face-to-face against enemies, making himself a target. Additionally, Kihoon demonstrated that he was also an adequate damage dealer when facing off against the sounds and high orcs.
2Kim Chul
Able To Withstand An Attack From Ice Bears
Kim Chul appears as the party leader of a group of hunters in episode thirteen ofSolo Leveling, belonging to the White Tiger guild. Having a large build, Kim Chul fit the role of atanker-class hunterperfectly.
When he and his comrades entered the gate before it turned red, he seemed to be a very competent leader. This quickly changed when the difficulty of the dungeon rose, and he left the weaker members behind. While Ki Chul could sustain himself in combat against the ice bears in the reg gate dungeon, he was nearly overwhelmed and lost his entire party.
1Woo Jin-Chul
