The Witcher 4is taking a significant leap into the future, as a more mature version of Ciri is taking up the mantle for Geralt. So far, Geralt has served as the franchise’s protagonist, butThe Witcher 4taking a fresh route is an exciting change of pace for the series. However, this raises plenty of questions about which characters will be making an appearance in this new chapter.
Thankfully, CD Projekt Red has confirmed thatGeralt will return inThe Witcher 4, but his role will be different. When it comes to major characters like Yennefer and Triss, though, the verdict is still out on whether they will appear or not.The Witcher 4is bound to feature plenty of shake-ups, but when it comes to the character of Dandelion, the charming bard will hopefully steer clear of being tossed aside.
The Witcher 4 Shouldn’t Abandon Dandelion, Even if He Just Has a Small Role
One of Geralt’s Most Loyal Friends
For both fans of the games and the books, Dandelion has been a significant fixture in Geralt’s life. While the relationship of the duo is even more fleshed out in the books,The Witcher 3nails several ofDandelion’s most important personality traits. Whether it’s seducing women or keeping a detailed record of Geralt and his journey, Dandelion has played an essential role. Since it’s unclear who the returning cast ofThe Witcher 4will be, there is plenty of room for speculation. Dandelion may seem a little bit goofy to some players, but his unapologetically flamboyant personality in combination with Geralt’s brooding pessimism makes for a great contrast.
The two play off each other really well and help the cast feel more balanced, so it would be a shame forThe Witcher 4to not feature him in at least some capacity.KeepingThe Witcher 4tied to its predecessorsis important, and that includes the cast, as well. Whether it be through subtle nods to past games or full-blown cameos and appearances,The Witcher 4starting completely with a blank slate past Geralt could keep the game from feeling like part of the franchise.
What The Witcher 4’s Leap Forward in Time Means for Dandelion
The Witcher 4’s timeline is a huge mystery right now.The age of Cirihas yet to be revealed, but it’s clear that she is older than in the previous chapter. InThe Witcher 3, she was in her early 20s, but now it seems as though she could be in her early to mid-30s. However, the long lifespan of witchers makes estimating her age tricky. If she’s only around a decade or two older, though, then Dandelion is very likely still alive, if he has managed to stay out of trouble.
Thanks to his ability to always find himself in rocky situations, it’s possible that Dandelion could have met an unfortunate fate, but it’s unlikely that CD Projekt Red would abruptly leave the character behind like that. A scenario where Ciri visits Dandelion as an older man and reminisces is not outside the realm of possibility.Dandelion’s loyalty to Geralt is unmatched, and that is likely to carry over to Ciri, as well.
The Witcher 4was announced at the 2024 Game Awards.
The Witcher 4 May Be a Long Wait
Unfortunately, it’s bound to be a while before fans are given deeper insight intoThe Witcher 4. An official confirmation is exciting, but it may be a long time before CD Projekt Red reveals what else awaits players. Until then, revisitingThe Witcher 3can offer a great adventure with Geralt, Ciri, and Dandelion all in tow.
