The open worldWonder Womanvideo game has been canceled and three of Warner Bros. Games' studios have been shut down. TheWonder Womanvideo game was first revealed at The Game Awards 2021, but updates on the project have been few and far between ever since.

TheWonder Womanvideo game teasershowed the title character wielding her iconic Lasso of Truth and reports over the years suggested that the game would utilize the Nemesis system featured in Monolith’sMiddle-earthgames, but little else was ever revealed about the project. After years of seemingly troubled development, the plug has been pulled on theWonder Womangame and the studio has been shut down.

This is according to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who broke the news on Bluesky. According to Schreier, not only has the long-in-developmentWonder Womanvideo game been canceled, but Warner Bros. Games has shut downdeveloper Monolith Productions, WB San Diego, and Player First Games, the latter of which was in charge of the failed free-to-playSuper Smash Bros.-likeMultiVersus.

WB Has Canceled the Wonder Woman Game

Various reports over the years have painted a bleak picture of theWonder Womangame’s development. Rumors suggested thatthe game would be a live-service title, or at least incorporate live-service elements, which shook fans' confidence in the project. The lack of meaningful updates on the game over the years was also certainly not a good sign, though the cancellation of theWonder Womanproject and the shuttering of Monolith Productions still comes as a shock.

Monolith Productions was formed in 1994 and was acquired by Warner Bros. in 2004. Under the WB banner, Monolith released some of its memorable works, including the first twoF.E.A.R.games,theCondemnedduology, andMiddle-earth: Shadow of WarandShadow of Mordor. Monolith’s last game was 2017’sMiddle-earth: Shadow of War, which was generally well-received, but didn’t quite reach the same heights as its predecessor.

WB has suffered multiple high-profile video game misfires in recent years.Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice Leaguewas a disaster for the company, andMultiVersusis on the verge of shutting down after years in development. The company has also had some hits, likeHogwarts Legacy’s incredible sales success and the ever-popularMortal Kombatseries. Upcoming projects reportedly include aHogwarts Legacysequel and a newBatmangame from Rocksteady, but there isn’t much known about either at the time of this writing.
