However, there is one aspect of the gearing process that players aren’t a fan of – andWorld of Warcraftis aware of this fact.During an interview with But Why Tho?,World of Warcraftassociate game director Morgan Day and associate encounter designer Katrina Yepiz discussed Valorstones, the currency used for gear upgrades at max level. “Valorstones are something that we know as a hot topic in the audience right now,” Day explained. “But a lot of our focus, especially for mythic plus, has been on crests, because we know that often that becomes a limiting factor.” That said, Day also admitted Valorstones needed some attention as well.

WoW Valorstones are Not in the ‘Healthiest Place’

Day went on to explain that Valorstones are in a “weird space where they matter so much early on in a season,” but that players eventually reach “a saturation point” where “crests are your limiting factors” – leaving no place for characters to spend their Valorstones. Each character can only carry 2000 Valorstones at any given time, and thecurrency cannot be transferred to otherWorld of Warcraftcharacterswithin an account Warband, which can easily frustrate players by making them lose out on Valorstones while at the cap. “We really recognize that that’s not the healthiest place for them to be,” Day admitted.

Valorstones are something that we know as a hot topic in the audience right now.

Luckily, it seemsWorld of Warcraftis already making some changes to Valorstones in Patch 11.1. Day confirmed that raids will drop “quite a bit more” Valorstones than before, though it remains to be seen exactly how much, or if otherWorld of Warcraftcontent like Mythic+will benefit from these increases. Day concluded by saying, “We definitely hear the community feedback and understand the problem space there,” so hopefully,World of Warcraftwill be able to implement further adjustments to Valorstones in the future if this increase is not enough.

Needless to say, fans are happy to hearWorld of Warcraftis keeping an eye on Valorstones. An overwhelming majority of players have disliked the currency since it was added inDragonflight, with most of these fans agreeing that the Valorstone cap should be removed – or that they should be taken out of the game entirely. While there is no evidence Blizzard would take such a drastic approach with theWorld of Warcraftupgrade currency, players can take solace in the fact that the troubled system is being monitored.
