Summary
Whimpering Wastes is the latest permanent game mode inWuthering Waves, and has allowed certain characters to shine while some of the more popular ones have taken a sidestep. With 12 stages for players to experience, Whimpering Wastes serves as a good alternative to the established Tower of Adversity.
As the core mechanic of this game mode revolves around deleting packs of enemies in a quick period of time, certain characters will always remain head and shoulders above others. It’s time to take a look at some of the best characters to use in the latest combat-based system inWuthering Waves.
1Jiyan
General Of The Midnight Rangers
After being overshadowed by DPS units like Jinhsi, Camellya, and Carlottain the Tower of Adversity, Jiyan has come back with a bang as the best character in Whimpering Wastes. The new game mode feels tailored to Jiyan’s strengths, as waves of enemies in large numbers are the primary opponents.
Jiyan excels at grouping up enemies and quickly obliterating them with his Resonance Liberation. Pairing him up with the classic Mortefi and Verina team comp from Version 1.0 will allow players to have one of the strongest teams in Whimpering Wastes.
2Roccia
First Mate Of The Troupe Of Fools
Roccia is another unit that doesn’t perform quite well in the Tower of Adversity compared to other sub-DPS units. However, much like Jiyan, she is focused on grouping enemies and allowing the main DPS to deal massive damage, which in this case is often Camellya.
The only downside to Roccia is that she is quite limited in her team comps, unlike Yinlin, Sanhua, and Mortefi. However, she makes up for this with herinsane amounts of grouping potentialthat is absolutely necessary to succeed in Whimpering Wastes.
3Verina
Prodigal Botanist
Verina is the best supportin Whimpering Wastes, outclassing the Shorekeeper purely because of her significantly smaller rotation. This game mode is all about dealing damage, which means that the support in any team comp needs to get as much value as possible in very little time.
Verina does this job incredibly well and her Outro buff is more relevant compared to Shorekeeper, as the token, The Gospel that Receives Harmonized Praise, is an enhanced version of Shorekeeper’s Resonance Liberation.
4Camellya
Bloom Bearer
Camellya comfortably slots into Whimpering Wastes as one of the best DPS characters and even has the potential to rival Jiyan with the right team. Camellya has significant AOE damage thanksto her Ephemeral and spinning attacks.
Her damage is further amplified by Roccia or Sanhua, which makes Camellya and Jiyan the most reasonable choices to round out both teams as the main DPS unit.
5Changli
Counselor Of Jinzhou Magistrate
Changli is an alternative for players who want to run double DPS comps. Whilepiloting her efficiently requires proper quick swaps, Changli does an immense amount of AoE burst damage on almost all of her attacks.
Even if players aren’t comfortable with quick swaps, a single combo of Forte Circuit attack, Resonance Liberation, and Forte Circuit attack is enough to decimate most waves featuring common enemies. Changli is a fun character to utilize that can be a breath of fresh air compared to the usual meta team comps.
6Yinlin
Former Jinzhou Patroller
Yinlin is the most consistent and reliable Sub-DPS in Whimpering Wastes, as she gains huge benefits from the amount of enemies present. The more enemies on the battlefield, the faster Yinlin can regain her Concerto Energy.
This allows her to always deal reasonable AoE damage while having a ridiculously short rotation time to let her DPS focus on dishing out massive damage. SinceYinlin can build Concerto Energy so quickly, players can have consistent uptime on her AoE and coordinated attacks.
7Xiangli Yao
Principal Investigator Of Huaxu Academy
Xiangli Yao is a powerful DPS that shines best in team comps with Yinlin. Without her additional AoE damage, Xiangli Yao can sometimes struggle to clear out waves. However, he has much more consistent damage compared to burst-heavy DPS' like Jinhsi that don’t have too much AoE built into their kit.
Xiangli Yao’s Resonance Liberation is one of the best tools to wipe out waves in Whimpering Wastes. While his value diminishes without Yinlin, he is still a solid option for players who do not have Jiyan or Camellya.
8The Shorekeeper
Guardian Of The Black Shores
As mentioned before, while explaining Verina’s power in Whimpering Wastes, the Shorekeeper gets slightly outclassed by her since her Resonance Liberation is outshone by one of the tokens that give a massive buff to Crit Rate and Crit DMG.
Apart from this, the Shorekeeper’s rotation takes a bit longer, which is not ideal in this game mode as the support needs to be off-field for most of the fight. However, she still has some grouping potential and is generally a solid support to bring in any comp to boost the damage of the main DPS.
9Mortefi
Tacetite Weaponry Expert
Mortefi finds his way onto this list purely because of his excellent synergy with Jiyan. Even if Jiyan wasn’t a great character in Whimpering Wastes, Mortefi is an excellent buffer that takes minimal field time thanks to his quick Concerto Energy buildup.
Mortefi elevates Jiyan to decimate waves in the blink of an eye and is the premier Sub-DPS choice for the Midnight Ranger General.
10Sanhua
Jinhsi’s Trusted Guard
Much like Mortefi, Sanhua is a great buffer that synergizes extremely well with Camellya. If players do not have Roccia in their account, Sanhua is the clear-cut Sub-DPS to help Camellya dish out huge damage.
Sanhua also has a very short rotation window and has a good amount of AoE damage herself. Sanhua has always been a powerful character in the meta, and Whimpering Wastes is another game mode where she shines.
