With theX-Menfilm rights now under Marvel Studios' control following Disney’s acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the studio has beenplanning anX-MenMCU rebootfor years. While Marvel Studios is seemingly focused on giving the Fox era a fitting sendoff by having actors from pastX-Menmovies reprise their mutant roles in the MCU Multiverse, most fans suspect the studio will find new actors for these iconic roles and reboot the franchise with a new feature film. Details On Marvel Studios' Rumored X-Men MCU TV Series

During a recent episode of Jeff Sneider and John Rocha’sThe Hot Mic, the two hosts discussed the report onMarvel Studios' decision to pause development on 3 MCU shows:Nova,Strange Academy, andTerror Inc.Sneider noted that when he heard about theStrange Academyshow, a source told himanAcademy Xseries was in development that could potentially lead into theX-MenMCU movie. Another source told Sneider they would be surprised if Marvel Studios started doing X-Men MCU shows before the movie and that theAcademy Xseries would be a spinoff of the movie that would release after. Regardless of whether it would precede or follow the X-Men MCU movie, Sneider said both sources were seemingly of the opinion that a live-actionAcademyX series about “young mutants” was in the works.

During the conversation, Sneider commented on the 3 projects Marvel Studios reportedly paused. He believes that theNovaMarvel show will still happen (probably next year) and that it may have made sense for Marvel Studios to hold off on the project if they wanted the currently unavailable Brandon Sklenar to play Richard Rider. Sneider also heard thattheStrange Academyserieswould be Marvel Studios' “Harry Potter show” with wizards, warlocks, and similar content. He speculated that perhaps Marvel Studios decided to do Academy X rather than “compete” against Warner Bros.‘Harry PotterTV series withStrange Academy.

For the unaware, Academy X students were introduced in Marvel Comics’New X-Men #23essentially as a new incarnation of the New Mutants. The initial roster included the more obscure characters Anole, Armor, the Cuckoo Triplets, Dust, Elixir, Prodigy, Pixie, and Rockslide. These Academy X students were being trained at the Xavier Institute to become members of and potentially future leaders of the X-Men team.

Of course, if Marvel Studios is planning an Academy X series, there’s no shortage of more recognizable young mutants to choose from. If the Academy X series precedes the X-Men MCU movie, it could be an effective way of introducing the team to audiences before their big screen debut. On the other hand, most fans probably don’t want towait much longer to see Marvel Studios’X-Menmovie. Regardless of which project comes first, fans are excited to see how Kevin Feige and the MCU team adapt the X-Men.

Marvel Studios’X-Menmovie is in development at Marvel Studios.
